A new surgeon to start in the new year

Dr. Jennifer Ford will be joining Huron Health System in January 2024

Goderich, ON— December 20, 2023 The Huron Health System is thrilled to announce the addition of a highly skilled and compassionate surgeon, Dr. Jennifer Ford, MD, DABS, FACS, to our esteemed medical team. Dr. Ford will be joining our team on January 2, 2024, bringing a wealth of experience and expertise to enhance further the quality of healthcare services provided to our community.

Dr. Ford (pictured), is thrilled to be joining the team at Alexandra Marine and General Hospital (AMGH) as a new permanent general surgeon! Dr. Ford, originally hailing from Dutton Dunwich, completed her undergraduate education at McMaster University followed by medical school at St. George's University.  She undertook her residency in general surgery at Ascension St. John Hospital and Medical Center in Detroit, MI. She comes to AMGH from Richland, WA where she has been working as an Emergency General Surgeon with the Trauma and Emergency General Surgery Team.  Dr. Ford has extensive experience in minimal invasive surgical techniques, endoscopy, and trauma. Dr. Ford is well published in a variety of national and international medical journals, a textbook, and numerous research presentations throughout the USA and has won multiple research presentation awards. She is highly dedicated to medical education having been an Associate clinical professor for both the Pacific Northwest University School of Medicine and Washington State University School of Medicine. She received the Educator of the Year Award in 2021 from Washington State University as the top teaching faculty in the state. In her free time, Dr Ford is an avid hiker, hockey fan and musician.

"We are excited to welcome Dr. Ford to our team. Her exceptional skills and dedication to patient well-being make her an excellent addition to AMGH. We believe her presence will contribute significantly to the continued growth and success of our practice," said Jimmy Trieu, President & CEO at Huron Health System.

“On behalf of the Board of Directors of HHS it is a privilege for me to extend a warm heartfelt welcome to Dr. Ford in joining our dedicated team.Your commitment and interest in rural healthcare will be very much appreciated by our catchment area”, stated Glen McNeil, Board Chair of HHS.

"As the mayor of Goderich, I extend a warm welcome to Dr. Ford,” said Trevor Bazinet, Mayor of Goderich. “In joining us, you not only bring your exceptional medical expertise but also a compassionate spirit that will undoubtedly enhance the vitality of our town. Your commitment to healing aligns seamlessly with our shared vision for a healthier, happier future for all residents. I am honored to have you as a vital member of our community, Dr. Ford, and I look forward to the positive impact your care will undoubtedly have on the lives of those you serve."

When asked why she chose AMGH, she states that having grown up in a neighbouring rural area, she had always wanted to give rural residents the same treatment care, and opportunities that are offered in bigger cities.  Just because we choose to live rurally, our healthcare options should not be lesser or compromised. She loved the immediate feeling of family and togetherness the staff created to serve the community. Dr Ford is excited to be joining the community and feels so lucky to be raising her family in such a beautiful area.
