Patient Experience Partners Needed

1/8/2023

Patient Experience Partners (PEPs)

Huron Health System (HHS) aims to create a culture of patient centered-care. Patient Experience Partners can help us to understand and appreciate what a patient-centred care environment looks and feels like.

Patient Experience Partners get involved based on interests, experience, and availability. The time commitment can vary depending on interest and availability.

Patient-centered care means:
• Seeing patients as experts in their own experience and working with them to improve the quality, safety, and satisfaction of their care
• Partnering with patients and families to ensure their voice is heard at all levels of the organization, from the bedside to the boardroom; examples include developing policy, building processes, and working together on projects

Patients and families have a lot to offer; here are some ways you can get involved:
• Share your own thoughts and ideas to represent the voices of patients and families; this point of view improves programs, education, design, and the way we provide care
• Assist us to understand and appreciate how we already include patients and families in their own care and how we might improve the experience for them

Some topics include Falls Prevention, Health and Safety, Workplace Violence, Codes and a variety of other topics as they arise. Work will be done on individual topics with working groups or hospital committees, as well as with the PEP committee as a whole.

SUCCESFUL PATIENT EXPERIENCE PARTNERS:
• Are excited about improving the healthcare experience for patients and families
• Want to share their ideas and experiences to help improve programs, services, and hospital priorities
• Are good listeners and can communicate well with others
• Are respectful of other people's thoughts and ideas
• Can openly share their thoughts and ideas in a group setting
• Are open to hearing about other people’s thoughts, ideas, and experiences
• Can promote the mission and values of SHHA when engaging with staff, physicians, volunteers, and the community
• Can make the needed time commitment
• Are able to communicate – even the help of a family member or caregiver is ok
• Have received care at HHS (Goderich or Exeter site) in the last 3 years (or have a family member that has received care in the last 3 years or live in the Community and are consumers of healthcare).
